The Club acknowledged and presented awards to three exceptional members. Please join us in congratulating the fantastic three: Craig Wingate, Thomas Setser, and Rick Thoman!
2012 Award of Excellence
Craig earned Award of Excellence for his dedication to the Club. Craig competed and represented SFTFC in USATF PA championship and Pride Meet. In addition to the sprinting events, he took advantage of his strong physique and competed in Discus Throw. Needless to say, PRs were produced and he looks forward to more next year. Off the track (and field!), he has been President of the Club in 2012. Determined, he fulfilled his duties and obligations with his poise. He led the 30th Anniversary Celebration committee and produced well-attended party. He also played a pivotal role as a booth captain for SF Pride and Folsom Street Fair fundraisers. As President, he volunteered his time to be at the team practice every Sunday and was an ambassador of the Club when he was at track meets, fundraisers and made his appearance to East Bay and San Francisco Frontrunners’ events.
2012 Rising Star
Thomas has been around at the Bay Area’s running events, but this is his first year as a member of SFTFC. He competed and represented SFTFC in USATF PA championship and Pride Meet, and is planning to compete and represent SFTFC in the Christmas Relays in December. Thomas quickly became a regular at the team practice and helped distance team’s workouts. He was also present at all three fundraisers (SF Pride, Lazy Bear, and Folsom) and has just been voted onto the Board as Membership/Communications Director for 2013. Despite being in the tough age group for mid distance events, he kept pushing himself and proved himself as an inspiration to the Club members.
Outstanding Contribution
Rick’s contribution to the Club and in the community has been extraordinary, and this recognition is WAY overdue. He is the only active member of the Club, who participated in all Gay Games since 1982 (San Francisco x 2, Vancouver, New York, Amsterdam, Sydney, Chicago, and Cologne). He brings experience and wisdom to the Club and helped members with many aspects of their lives. He has been Vice President of the Club in 2012 and helped the Club succeed in its exciting 30th year. He was also present at all three fundraisers (SF Pride, Lazy Bear, and Folsom). On the track, Rick competed and represented SFTFC in USATF PA championship, Senior Games and Pride Meet this year.
