It’s been a while since we canceled our team practice. Hope everyone stayed dry this rainy weekend and enjoyed the break!
While everybody has his/her own goal for 2015, I wanted to share what’s ahead in terms of track and field competition this year and our effort to help you succeed in the competition. This year, we don’t have a big event like we did last year, but that does not mean we are going to train any less (except this weekend!). First of all, our event calendar is filling up with various track and field meets. For those who want to know the current fitness level, UC Berkeley all comers meet is a perfect event to find that out. They have already had two meets and their third and last meet is scheduled on Saturday, Feb 21. Even if you are not ready to compete, it would be a good place to get inspiration or up your motivation. $10 to participate but free to go watch. See our event calendar for details. If you cannot make that day but still want to test your fitness, Los Gatos Track Club has all comers meet every Sunday until Feb 28. See our event calendar for details.
You may remember we had Mark Jellison as a coach at our Sunday practice last year. Some have been asking if he will return to our team practice. Today, we are happy to announce the board agreed to welcome him back as a coach. We are finalizing details with him, but it looks like he will start on the first Sunday in March. Keep your eyes out for future communication about this. We are fortunate to be able to have him as a coach and encourage every member to take advantage of this great opportunity at no cost to you. However, we would not be able to afford this without successful fundraising. We are going to have our first fundraiser in March. If you benefited from working out with us, please volunteer for this event.
Solid training under Coach Mark should prepare us for the competitions in May and June. There are USATF Pacific Association (PA) championships: Sunday, May 31 for the Masters athletes, and Sunday, June 14 for the Open athletes. Bay Area Senior Games will be held on May 24, and Sonoma Wine Country Senior Games will be on June 13. But most importantly, our own Pride Track & Field Meet will be held on Saturday, June 20. This year, we will bring it back to San Francisco. This meet will not only be a USATF-sanctioned event but also one of the five USATF PA Grand Prix meets. Registration and other information will be available shortly via Pride Track & Field Meet website and its Twitter account. After June, some athletes will be traveling to national and international competitions.
So, the 2015 track and field season looks pretty solid for us. Hope this series of events will get you excited and motivated to come work out with us. See you at San Francisco University track on Sundays at 10:00 am. We will be there!
